Why was Iowa City selected as the site for the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge in Iowa?

The American Cancer Society is committed to building Hope Lodge facilities near National Cancer Institute-designated Cancer Centers. NCI designation recognizes the breadth and depth of research as well as the center’s activities in public information, education and outreach.

The University of Iowa Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center in Iowa City is currently Iowa’s only NCI-designated cancer center; therefore, it has been selected to be the site of Hope Lodge in Iowa.

The National Cancer Institute has granted its designation to 61 Cancer Centers in the US. Of those, only 39 are further designated as Comprehensive Cancer Centers. The Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center is one of those facilities.
